Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan has publicly expressed his belief that he should be a key player in Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United squad. Since his move from German outfit Borussia Dortmund, the midfielder has failed to establish himself as an important player under the Portuguese manager.

He has made only one Premier League appearance so far and barely seems to be in good touch. “I know I can succeed at Manchester United and I want to show everyone that I deserve to be a key player in this team and in this league,” said the ex-Borussia Dortmund player in an interview with the Armenian FA during the international break.

He has already been linked with a move away from Manchester United in the January transfer window but the midfielder still believes he can be a success if he is given a chance.

“There are no disappointments, just challenges; I never stop or give up when I encounter obstacles in my way, I just continue going until I reach my career objectives Today I don't have enough playing time, so I have to do all my best so the coaching staff gives me the chance to play. I’ll keep working hard and this will pay off,” said the midfielder who looked determined to be back to his best.

The Manchester United player has had a great international break so far after leading his national team to a 3-2 victory over Montenegro in their World Cup qualifier. Montenegro were leading 2-0 at halftime before Armenia staged an inspiring comeback to take the game in the 94th minute.

This victory sees Armenia pick up their first three points in Group E which consists of Poland, Denmark, Romania, Montenegro and Kazakhstan. Poland currently lead the group with 10 points while Montenegro are not far behind with 7 points. This win will give Armenia a lot of confidence in their chance to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are currently in the sixth position in the Premier League. Sitting above them are Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. The Red Devils face Arsenal on Saturday when the Premier League returns as Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger will renew their rivalry that dates back to his Chelsea stint.

Manchester United will then face West Ham United in the EFL Cup, hoping to have a good cup run.
