Arsenal celebrate Lukas Podolski’s winner against Anderlecht in the Champions League

Arsenal left it very late to snatch all three points away at Anderlecht, coming away with a 2-1 win.

The Belgian side took the lead through Andy Najar to initially spoil Arsene Wenger’s 65th birthday celebrations. But Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski scored in the final minutes to give the Gunners all three points.

The North London side are now second in Group D (6 points), while Borussia Dortmund are on top with a perfect record so far (9 points).

Anderlecht 1-0 Arsenal: Najar (71’)

The Belgian side capitalized on Arsenal’s defensive errors to take the lead with a header from the centre of the box. Dennis Praet sent in a cross where Najar headed home an uncontested header past the diving goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Anderlecht 1-1 Arsenal: Gibbs (89’)

Arsenal piled on the pressure after making substitutions and Calum Chambers provided a delightful cross into the box where an onrushing Gibbs only had to side-foot the ball into the bottom corner.

Anderlecht 1-2 Arsenal: Podolski (91’)

Arsenal then snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with Anderlecht defenders panicking in the final minutes. Gibbs crossed the ball from inside the box and Alexis Sanchez controlled the ball just outside the six-yard box. The Chilean forward then crossed the ball which pinged off a defender for Podolski to smash it home from close range.
