Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck celebrates his hat-trick against Galatasaray

Arsenal beat Galatasaray 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, with new summer signing Danny Welbeck scoring a hat-trick.

Alexis Sanchez also got on the score sheet in a game Arsenal dominated until Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a straight red card after conceding a foul in the box.

Although the Turkish side scored the resulting penalty through Burak Yilmaz with David Ospina making his Champions League debut, the Gunners held on for the win and their first points in the group stage this season.

The win gave Arsene Wenger something to celebrate on the 18th anniversary of his tenure at the North London club.

Arsenal 1-0 Galatasaray: Welbeck (22’)

Arsenal’s first goal came after a delighful pass from Alexis Sanchez found Welbeck who made a run through the defence. Although the goalkeeper came off his line for the block, Welbeck scored by shooting the ball through his legs.


Arsenal 2-0 Galatasaray: Welbeck (30’)

The second goal came eight minutes later. Welbeck capitalized on a botched clearance attempt by Galatasaray and was in the clear to make a run at goal. He scored from a similar position as the first, curling the ball past the goalkeeper into the far corner while falling over.


Arsenal 3-0 Galatasaray: Alexis (41’)

Mesut Ozil created this goal with a superb through ball to find Alexis making a run down the left side. The Chilean moved to the centre, sidestepped one defender and shot past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner to give the Gunners a 3-0 lead.


Arsenal 4-0 Galatasaray: Welbeck (52’)

The English striker then completed his hat-trick with a diagonal run into the box. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain found him with a through ball and Welbeck flicked it past the advancing goalkeeper to get his first career hat-trick.
