Zlatan Ibrahimovic may finally get the opportunity to represent his country at the 2016 Olympics, after Sweden’s draw with Portugal helped them qualify to the semis of the U21 Euros.

An 89th minute winner from Simon Tibbling cancelled out Portugal’s opener, thus ensuring that both sides go through at the expense of England and Italy, and with that, also gain automatic qualification to the Rio Olympics 2016.

According to the rules of the Summer Olympics, men’s teams are restricted to U-23 players (born on or after January 1, 1993) with a limit of three overage players. 33-year-old Ibrahimovic qualifies in this respect, and the fans would love to see their senior national team captain lead the team.

The PSG striker has previously stated that although it might be difficult, he would definitely be interested in representing Sweden in Rio 2016 if the possibility arises.

Speaking to the Sportbladet newspaper earlier this month, he said; “It’s all about how the situation looks at that point but if I have the chance to represent my Sweden at an Olympics, why not? We’ll have to see how the situation is … but if I’m available, absolutely.”

Now that Sweden have qualified, Zlatan could be given the chance to realise his Olympic dream, which could also be another shot at winning his first trophy in the international arena.
