Video: Iker Casillas proves he is irreplaceable to De Gea with an incredible save

Casillas not ready to give away his no.1 spot to David de Gea

David De Gea may have to wait for his opportunity to start for Spain as first choice keeper, especially after Iker Casillas demonstrated to his compatriot that he’s still got it with the veteran goalkeeper pulling off an incredible save during training.

Manchester United and Real Madrid were caught in a transfer tussle on deadline day as the 24-year-old was all set to complete his move to the Spanish capital. But the deal broke down in the final minutes which prompted a blame game between the two elite teams with both releasing official statements revealing their side of the story on the deal.

And while the Red Devils shot stopper couldn’t get to replace Casillas at the Santigo Bernabeu, he certainly will find it tougher to displace the World Cup winning captain from the no.1 spot in La Roja squad.

With the international breaks returning this week, Spain’s national squad have been in training as they take on Slovakia on Saturday in their Euro qualifiers fixture. And Casillas made an unbelievable save during La Roja's training session on Wednesday, as a cross was met by Cesc Fabregas and headed towards goal from close range. However, the midfielder was denied by Casillas with a wonderful reaction save to show that he is still a reliable force between the sticks.

Casillas joined FC Porto this summer thus ending a 16-year-long professional career with Real Madrid. The ex-Blancos skipper made 725 official appearances overall for the capital club and won five La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys and the Champions League three times among a host of other honours.

Here is the video of Casillas’ save.
