Jack Wilshere hits out at the British media for misinterpreting his quotes about Januzaj

Jack Wilshere believes only English-born players should play for England

England international Jack Wilshere, claiming that the media had misinterpreted his comments earlier today, has clarified his stand on Adnan Januzaj‘s eligibility to play for the England national football team.

British media quoted Wilshere as saying that Januzaj, the Belgian-born Manchester United youngster, should not be allowed to represent the Three Lions.

Jack Wilshere took it to twitter to express his disappointment over the way his comments were misconstrued by the British press. Here is what he had to say.

Wilshere indeed looks framed as his exact words did not seem to point towards Januzaj at all. This is what he had to say earlier today,“ The only people who should play for England are English people. If you live in England for five years it doesn’t make you English.

“You shouldn’t play. It doesn’t mean you can play for a country. If I went to Spain and lived there for five years I’m not going to play for Spain.’’

Januzaj, who is also eligible to play for Turkey and Serbia, shot to fame after scoring a stunning brace on his full debut for the Red Devils against Sunderland at the weekend.
