Jamie Carragher jokes about wanting De Gea to sign for Real Madrid

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, joked about wanting Manchester United’s star goalkeeper David de Gea to sign for La Liga giants Real Madrid. According to Carrgher, Manchester United, who are currently in a race for a top-four finish in the Barclays Premier League, are at their current position due to De Gea brilliant performance this year.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper was recently very influential in the victory against Newcastle United on Wednesday. The Spaniard held back the likes of Papiss Cisse and Emmanuel Riviere to help his team claim the victory, with the help of a late strike from Ashley Young.

De Gea, whose contract is set to expire at the end of next season, is currently undergoing contract negotiations with the United. United, who are keen on extending the Spaniard’s contract, will be facing strong competition from Champions League winner Real Madrid. The people at the Bernabeu though are looking at De Gea to be a permanent replacement for Iker Casillas.

Carragher who is currently a pundit at Sky Sports joked that he wanted to see De Gea leave Old Trafford for the Bernabeu.

While De Gea is receiving praises for his phenomenal performance, the United team as a whole is being criticized for their pedestrian like performance. If De Gea were to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid by the end of this season, the club will be dealt a huge blow in the rebuilding of the team.
