Jesse Lingard explains celebration with Daley Blind after scoring against West Brom

Lingard and Blind reenacted the famous ‘Shark-Dance’ from the ‘99 flick ‘Any Given Sunday’

Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard, who scored his first premier league goal for the club on Saturday, has explained his celebration with Daley Blind after he scored the goal, through his Instagram account.

Daley Blind, who currently plays as a centre-back for United also posted a photo of the celebration on his official twitter account.

The United graduate scored his first senior goal for the club against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford as he brilliantly controlled the ball from a clearing header and curled home from the edge of the box early in the second half.

The 22-year old picked up his second ‘Man of the Match’ award in a week, the first one coming against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League group stage match, when he assisted Wayne Rooney with a perfectly weighted cross.

Lingard’s celebration with Blind was much talked about and both the players cleared the air on what the celebration was actually based on.

The England U-21 international posted a picture of the celebration with the caption, “Proud to get my 1st goal for the club, most importantly we got the 3 points. The celebration was from the film Any Given Sunday. STEAMIN WILLIE BEAMEN”.

Any Given Sunday is a 1999 American film directed by Oliver Stone and the movie depicts a fictional professional American football team. The United player paid homage to the character Willie Beamen, who was portrayed by Jamie Foxx in the movie. The actor celebrates a touchdown in the movie by doing the 'Shark-dance' with his team-mate which was emulated by the United duo.

Happy for Jesse Lingard: Van Gaal

Louis Van Gaal was very happy with the youngster’s recent performances and explained how he suggested the winger to control the ball before unleashing a shot.

"Of course, it was again a fantastic goal because Jesse Lingard scored his first goal today. In the training session earlier this week, he had these chances but shot directly, I told him to control the ball first because with that touch you have more of a feel of the ball - he did today it and scored a fantastic goal. I’m very happy for him, he deserves it because I think he played very well. I’m a happy manager today,” he told the media after the match according to Man Utd’s official website.

"We played three games in a row without scoring a goal though we had more than enough chances. That’s why you look for solutions and one of those was to bring Jesse into the team", he further added.
