Joe Cole returns to the Liverpool squad

Former England international Joe Cole has returned to the Melwood training ground after enjoying an impressive spell at French outfit Lille. Cole seemed to have rediscovered his fine form having endured a horrid time in the Barclays Premier League for Liverpool. It all went wrong for him since Day 1 as he was inevitably shown a red card on his debut against Arsenal. His football has pretty much been a downhill ever since.

Joe Cole will now be playing under newly-appointed manager Brendan Rodgers, who isn’t much of a stranger to him as the duo had previously worked together at Stamford Bridge.

It’s a clean slate for everyone, so I’m delighted to be back. You have to remember, I’ve only been at Liverpool one season, really, but this is the third manager I’ve played for.

It does feel different this time – it feels like it’s ready to go. I came here for one reason – because I wanted to be a part of the resurgence of this club. It excited me coming here because I knew what a big club it was with a rich history and I wanted to be part of something. I still do.

He should be given enough playing time this time round after the departure of the veteran Dirk Kuyt, and if Stewart Downing still fails to hit his best for the next few months, Joe Cole is indeed the man the Reds will rely on.
