Kaka says he's the last Ballon d'Or winner to be born on this planet

Ronaldo Messi and Kaka were the final three nominees for the 2007 FIFA Ballon d’Or award

Brazil legend Kaka has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for their dominance over the last few years while reminding everyone that he was the last player to have won the Ballon d’Or.

The former Milan attacking midfielder won the coveted individual prize back in 2007 when he inspired the Rossoneri to their 7th and last Champions League trophy under Carlo Ancelotti and it was the last time that a player other than Ronaldo or Messi won the award as it has been two-horse race since then for the past 7 years.

And Kaka praised both the Argentine and the Portuguese acknowledging their insane feats and how they have revolutionised the game in recent times. Kaka, now 33, plays for Orlando City in the USA and has been in good form for the MLS side.

Talking to Marca, the Brazilian said, "Ronaldinho, Cristiano, Messi and myself are the only Ballon d'Or winners who are still playing."

"It fills me with pride to stand alongside these great players, and to be the last player to have won the award before Messi and Ronaldo.

"You could say that I was the last Ballon d'Or winner to have been born on this planet,” added Kaka.

Relationship with Mourinho was never bad, says Kaka

After six successful seasons with AC Milan and winning the Champions League twice, Kaka completed his high-profile switch to Real Madrid in 2008 where he joined the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo who were also purchased by president Florentino Perez (elected for the second time) as part of Los Blancos Galacticos part 2 venture.

But injuries barred him from replicating his brilliant form in Milan and under Jose Mourinho, the Brazil international failed to flourish and saw more minutes on the bench than on the field.

However, Kaka stressed that his relationship with the Portuguese manager never deteriorated and he has always had good terms with him.

"I always acted very professionally and respected the decisions he made. My relationship with him wasn't bad," Kaka said.

"It's true that there were certain things that I didn't agree with, but I had no choice but to keep on working hard, and that's just what I did.

"And you know what? For me, it was rewarding to hear what he said about me when we both left the club. When he was asked about me, he said that I was a top professional," he concluded.
