In a string of tweets, Lionel Messi’s brother Matias confirmed that the Barcelona star’s son was named Mateo and not Benjamin. He earlier clarified the reports of birth of the footballing superstar’s second son saying the child wasn’t born yet and went on to indicate that the boy would not be named “Benjamin” as it has been widely purported.

The faux birth of Lionel Messi’s son took the footballing world by storm as the Argentine star reportedly had his second son earlier today. However, his brother has shed more light on the situation through Twitter saying the child who is due for birth soon has not yet been born and that Messi is not going to call the child “Benjamin”.

This was followed by the birth of Mateo who was reportedly born by caesarean section as a healthy baby.

There has been a lot of buzz in social media regarding Messi and Antonella Rocuzzo’s second son as reports indicated that the child was born after Messi was excused from training for family matters. The Argentine forward had earlier announced on social media that the couple were expecting another baby after their first son Thiago Messi. Some of the excitement was also related to the naming of the child as he would become the namesake of Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez’s son.

However, the boy was eventually named Mateo, perhaps to the disappointment of a number of fans who were expecting the three superstar babies to take the field on the same team in the future.

These tweets are in chronological order:

Matias would later confirm that the boy was born. The tweet roughly translates to: “Well folks, just born Mateo, it's beautiful, later I will give more details now to enjoy! GRACIASS TO ALL!”

Gaston Recondo also added: “Yes, she's just born Mateo Messi, son of Lionel and Antonella and brother of Tiago. It was by caesarean section, and both are well. Congratulations!”
