Lionel Messi has responded to Barack Obama’s request saying it would be a great honour to meet President and his daughters. Obama had recently revealed how his daughters wanted to meet the player while they were in Argentina.

Messi was surprised when he heard the news but was more than willing to meet them. “Obviously, I was surprised that he said that, but on the contrary, for me it would be completely the opposite,” Messi told TyC Sports.

The Ballon d’ Or winner felt privileged by the President’s request saying, “For me it would be a source of great pride to be able to meet him and his daughters, but obviously I know it would be complicated”

But Messi was doubtful on the possibility of the meeting and how it could be arranged saying, “I don't know whether it is possible. Maybe he made the comment because he was in Argentina but I can say I was as surprised as everyone else”

Recently Copa America’s twitter account also extended the Obama family an invitation to meet the superstar by offering them tickets for the 100th edition of the tournament to take place this summer in the US.

Argentina avenge Copa America defeat by defeating Chile

Messi helped his country beat Chile in the recent Wolrd Cup Qualifier game 2-1. The team have revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a disappointing first few games.

The Argentine captain praised his team’s effort after they exacted revenge for their Copa America final defeat last year. I an interview after the match he said, ”We did a great job although we didn't start in the way we hoped, The group managed to revert the situation and reply in the best way.”

Messi also talked about his fitness during the game having recently been treated for kidney stones. “I felt fine on the first half, but on the second I felt the fatigue a bit, as everyone did because Chile were fighting hard, looking for the draw without caring about conceding another goal. But we managed to stand, revert a difficult situation and maintain the 2-1.”

Argentina have now won back to back games in their qualifying campaign after losing their opener at home and drawing their next two matches. “Today's game gives us a lot of confidence for the next one [against Bolivia]. This way, we will get the six points we hoped for beforehand so we can be at the top of the table.”
