Liverpool 3 Gomel 0: Feels like Tiki-Taka

Liverpool FC brushed aside Belarusian outfit FC Gomel yesterday night to secure their passage into the next phase of the Europa League.

It was a result, and more importantly, and a performance that would please many a Liverpool fan. Furthermore, it’s nice to see Joe Allen among the onlookers looking on, with the Welshman seemingly on the verge of completing his move over to the Merseyside outfit.

Interestingly, as The Telegraph notes, Fabio Borini managed to join a list of fantastic Liverpool players to score on their debut in front of the Kop yesterday night. It just hit me that Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres indeed did do this, not to mention the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Robbie Fowler as well.

The Italian started the scoring yesterday with a powerful volley that Bushma couldn’t keep away from his net after some mazy dribbling by Luis Suarez. What followed was absolute jubilation, with him running in the direction of the fans with his hand shaped like a knife to his mouth, something Liverpool fans all around the world will hope to see more of over the coming months.

In general, Liverpool’s attacking trio of Fabio Borini, Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard combined really well to make some good chances. Luis Suarez was always running about hoping to cause a nuisance, with him being arguably the most sensational player on the ball park – taunting and teasing defenders with the ball at his feet. Gerrard, too, was often in an advanced role, with him given a more free role yesterday night by Brendan Rodgers, with this culminating in Liverpool’s second goal of the night.

It seems like Suarez might have just found his perfect partner-in-crime in Fabio Borini, with the Italian renowned in Italy for his lethal finishing and tireless running.

Liverpool’s third goal was nothing short of sublime, with Glen Johnson winning the ball outside the penalty area, almost jogging, and then unleashed a rocket with that left foot of his into the top right hand corner, leaving Bushma without any hope of stopping it.

The team passed and passed like clockwork, and it is definitely something that Liverpool fans will be optimistic about come 18th of August, when the Reds kick off their 2012/13 Premier League campaign against West Bromwich Albion.

My man of the Match – Luis Suarez

Despite not scoring a goal, the Uruguayan showed Liverpool fans why he is such an important player with a virtuso performance yesterday night. He ran his heart and soul out for the team, whilst also tormenting the Belarusian outfit’s defence.
