John W Henry has dropped the clearest indication yet that Liverpool will not be looking to move to a different stadium, preferring instead to redevelop Anfield to meet the club’s needs, due to it’s legendary status within the game.

Liverpool have been eyeing a bigger stadium for a number of years now having identified that a larger capacity is required in order to cater for the Reds’ significant fan base.

With Henry and his partner Tom Werner having enjoyed success in this field with the baseball’s Boston Red Sox in the United States, they wish to take the route taken with the famous Fenway Park stadium and redevelop what they already have to cement the legacy of the club.

Henry told BBC Sport, “The history at Boston is irreplaceable. It’s the same at Anfield.

“You’ve had European nights there and historic days that can never be replicated. People come from all over the world.

“When Tom Werner and I were in Warsaw at a European Club Association meeting, we were told by a number of executives from other clubs that the best experience they’ve ever had was at Anfield.

“So we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to get Anfield to where it needs to be over the next 20, 30, 40, 50 years and it’s challenging, but it’s also rewarding and we’ll get it done.”
