Out of favour Liverpool striker Iago Aspas has declared that he wants to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, report the Metro.

The 26-year-old Spaniard only joined the Merseysiders last summer following a £7 million over from La Liga outfit Celta Vigo but has failed to settle in England.

He arrived amidst high expectations after an impressive season in Spain with 12 goals in 35 league appearances but has not justified his hype or his price tag.

With formidable strike partnership Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge ahead of him in the pecking order, it has been difficult for Aspas to break into the first team throughout the campaign.

However, he has been granted several substitute appearances but failed to seize his opportunity time and again and now looks destined for an exit in the summer.

“I am not 20 years old anymore. I can’t go on loan and explode.

“I think the best would be to transfer to another club and that I find the best fit for myself and the club,” Aspas insisted.

With the Reds on course to earn a place in next season’s Champions League manager Brendan Rodgers is likely to be given a sizeable transfer budget to strengthen his squad and that could spell the end for Aspas’ unfruitful spell in England.

Several Spanish sides, including Valencia, have been reported to be keen on a loan deal for the forward and could be convinced to take Aspas on a permanent basis if he is available at the right price.

Iago Aspas has failed to score in 13 Premier League appearances for Liverpool this season.
