Louis van Gaal: Manchester United team has quality players but lacks balance

Louis van Gaal feels that Manchester United has a broken squad at present

Louis van Gaal believes that the Manchester United squad lacks balance thereby he has inherited a broken squad from the former coach David Moyes.

When asked whether it would have been harder to fill Sir Alex Fergusson shoes rather than taking over from Moyes, he replied, “No. I don’t agree. I had to follow Bobby Robson at Barcelona the year after he won three titles and there wasn’t a problem,” and curiously van Gaal helped Barcelona to win the title that year.

The former Dutch manager feels he would need to work on the team balance as the Manchester United team seems to be in bits and pieces.

“When there is success you have a very good squad and now I have to follow and the squad was broken I think,” opined van Gaal.

He also emphasised on the quality of the team while pointing out that there are too many players in the team who could play for similar positions.

“When you look at the squad, there is quality. There is Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Javier Hernández, Danny Welbeck but you also see Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and you see Ander Herrera. There are a lot of players that can play in the same position.

“It is not in balance. It’s more difficult to succeed in a difficult situation than in a fantastic situation.”
