Louis van Gaal is set to drop the axe on Manchester United flop Marouane Fellaini as he does not see the former Everton man as a ‘United player’, according to the Daily Mail.

Fellaini joined the Red Devils last summer in a deal worth £27million when David Moyes snapped up his former player from Everton during his ill-fated tenure at the club. Fellaini failed to live up to the billing and after various injuries throughout the season, he did not manage to start many games.

Fellaini has looked rejuvenated in the Belgium set-up at this summers World Cup and he scored in a vital group game a few weeks ago. Despite Adnan Januzaj praising his team-mate and saying that Fellaini could be the difference in Brazil, van Gaal does not want the Belgian at the club.

Recently, Fellaini said he was willing to fight for his place at Manchester United, but Netherlands coach Van Gaal seems set to offload him this summer. United will not be recuperating a sum anywhere near the fee they paid, but Ed Woodward is keen for a fresh start at the club.

Fellaini is currently playing for Belgium at the World Cup in Brazil.

Fellaini has created four chances in four games at the World Cup.
