Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is worried about the future of star goalkeeper David de Gea. Amidst rumours linking him to La Liga giants Real Madrid, De Gea had been offered a contract by the English club, which he has yet to sign.

The delay in the goalkeeper signing the deal has raised fresh doubts in Van Gaal’s mind that he would have to find a new goalkeeper come next season.

The Dutchman admitted that he may lose the goalkeeper. “It takes a long time now. So, it can always happen,” he revealed.

The former Barcelona manager said that the Red Devils have offered him “a lot of money”, but despite wanting him to stay, he can not sign the contract for the 24-year-old.

“I am not the boss. I want him to stay. The player is the boss he can say yes or no. You will have to ask David de Gea not me. He has to sign. We have offered him a lot of money.”

David de Gea has been nominated for the PFA player of the year by the FA for his extraordinary performances between the sticks. He has become a fan favourite at Old Trafford and has been involved in the Spanish national squad regularly due to his recent performances.

“We shall also sell players”

On signing new players early, Van Gaal said that it is not that easy as it depends on the market.

“We have to wait and see, it’s dependable on the market. We shall also sell players and that’s dependable on the market. It’s not so easy to finalise all the decisions you are making because the players are the boss, not the manager,” the 63-year-old uttered.

The man who succeeded David Moyes at the start of the season said that all the rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt.

“Every time you read in the papers that I buy that player or that player or have communicated with that player, it is not like that. At the end, the player has to decide and not the manager and not the manager of the selling club,” he concluded.
