Manchester United legend Bryan Robson feels its time one of the most decorated players in United’s history is given the top job at the club once Van Gaal’s contract runs out. Robson is one of the club's most iconic figures as well as being their longest serving captain.

Van Gaal is currently under pressure from fans after failing to meet the high level of expectations at the club. But Robson feels that Giggs is ready for the job now that he has worked as an assistant manager for the last three years.

“The thing for me is that Van Gaal was always going to be a three-year contract with Ryan working under him so that they could see whether he was ready to step in”

The Welshman was a product of United’s academy, part of the famous class of 92’. He has won 13 Premier League titles and 2 Champions Leagues with the Red Devils and knows the club inside-out. “Ryan was a great player for this club, he loves playing football the United way, he’s done all his badges and for me he’s in the right place at the right time”

Many former players have become great managers but there are high profile names who have failed as well but Robson believes it’s not as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. “People say it’s too big a challenge, too big a jump. But I don’t agree. Look at Pep Guardiola, he came through the ranks at Barcelona as a player and then as a young coach and then they trusted him and he stepped up. He was tremendously successful”

Giggs is a huge fan favourite at Old Trafford and knows what it takes to win titles, so there would be a lot of support if the 42-year-old is given the promotion. “It’s the same with Ryan. He knows what this club is all about and the fans would be totally behind the club if they made that decision and totally behind Ryan.”

Rooney eyes Everton game for return

Wayne Rooney is targeting United’s first game after the international break for his return from injury. The England captain injured himself before United’s first game against FC Midtjylland and has missed 8 games for United since then.

The United forward is set to miss England's upcoming friendlies against Germany and Netherlands and will also miss two crucial games against Liverpool in the Europa league as well as the Manchester Derby on Sunday.
