Fenerbahce pay for young Manchester United fan to meet Robin van Persie

Louis Diamond will be meeting his idol Robin van Persie, after a video of him crying went viral

Turkish side Fenerbahce have made arrangements to bring a young Manchester United fan, Louis Diamond to Istanbul so that he can watch his idol Robin van Persie play. The viral video which saw the little kid bawling, upon finding out that Robin van Persie was being sold caught a lot of peoples attention.

Van Persie left for Fenerbahce last month for a fee reportedly worth £4.7 million. The 32-year-old made his debut in the goalless draw against Shakhtar Donetsk, but was unable to feature in the return leg when his side lost 3-0.

A group of Fenerbahce fans started an online campaign to raise an amount of $2000 after seeing the video back in July, so that little Louis could meet his star.

Another person who happened to see the same video was Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim, who took it upon himself to invite the Diamond family to Turkey. The family accepted Yildirim’s invitation gratefully, and were treated like celebrities when the Fenerbahce TV Crew greeted them upon landing in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce play Eskisehirspor in their opening fixture of the season on Friday, the Diamond family will be watching the game from the president’s box at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium. Van Persie will meet the family at the end of the match regardless of his participation in the game.

The family’s gifts from Fenerbahce didn’t stop at that, Ilhan Eksioglu a board member at Fenerbahce booked them a five-day holiday in a well-known summer holiday destination in Antalya.

“We want to thank Fenerbahce and the president for making this happen. We can’t wait to see Robin van Persie play,” the boy’s father Sam Diamond said.

It seems like the little kids tears of sorrow at the end paid off.
