Manchester United are looking to add Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij to their squad, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils having been on the lookout for strengthening their options at the back after losing their legendary duo of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand to Inter Milan and Queens Park Rangers respectively.

They might be further depleted of option in their defensive line with Patrice Evra reportedly mooting over a move to Serie A champions Juventus.

Manchester United’s new boss Louis van Gaal will know de Vrij quite well after making a cornerstone of his defensive schemes for the Dutch national team which finished third in this year’s World Cup.

A host of Dutch names has been linked to United in recent months, ever since Louis van Gaal was declared as the man to take over the reign at Old Trafford. The prominent amongst them have been Ajax Amsterdam left-back Daley Blind, Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman and Stefan de Vrij.

The Red Devils were thought to be targeting German World Cup winner Mats Hummels as their primary target at the back. But, with Hummels opting to stay put at Borussia Dortmund, Ed Woodward and Co. have turned their eyes on the the 22 year old Feyenoord star.

It is now being reported that Manchester United are ready to shell out £10million to rope in the Dutch youngster, who has only one year left on his contract at the Rotterdam outfit.

If successful, de Vrij will become United’s third big signing of the summer. The Red Devils have already recruited Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera from Southampton and Atheltic Bilbao respectively, for a reported combined sum of £56million.
