They have won loads of titles together, they have a restaurant together and now it looks like they are going to add a football club to that list as well. The Manchester Evening News reports that Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs and his former teammate Gary Neville are in talks to buy non-league club, Salford City FC.

Nicknamed the Ammies, Salford City are a semi-professional outfit who compete in the Evo-Stick First Division North, the eighth tier of English football. Whilst at United, David Beckham was an avid admirer of Salford City, a club which housed several ex-United youth team players, including Ryan’s brother Rhodri used to play and later managed the team as well.

Although they are currently near the bottom, in the ladder of English football, there is a belief that, should this takeover happen, the club’s dreams of playing in the Football League might just come true. With secret talks ongoing for several weeks, it has now emerged that a consortium of ex-Manchester United Class of ’92 players fronted by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville but including David Beckham, Gary Neville and Nicky Butt look set to buy the club, they grew up watching.

According to the Salford Star, if the deal go through, a new stand at Moor Lane and a new youth academy will be up and running before too long. With a population of over 200,000, the Ammies aren’t in the reckoning for a place in the Football League as a result of lack of funds. Should this deal go through, work is set to start on a new £560,000 stand and clubhouse that the club have already been granted planning permission for.

Giggs, who is currently a player-coach at United and Neville, who is a member of Roy Hodgson’s coaching staff, as well as a regular pundit and co-commentator on Sky Sports are looking to give something back to the place they are from. It was only last December, that the duo opened a restaurant together, Cafe Football, in Westfield Stratford City in London. And it looks as though this is another venture, by the duo, who continue to remain close friends.
