Manchester United signed Marcos Rojo on the 20st of August for £16 million but he is yet to play a competitive match for the club. This is because his work permit is still pending. It was earlier being reported that his work permit was on hold becaus he was co-owned by Sporting Lisbon and a third-party but that issue seems to have been resolved with the Football Association having already issued his international transfer certificate

It has now been revealed that his UK Work permit is on hold as embassy officials are looking into an altercation case the defender had with his neighbour in Argentina.

British Immigration laws state that those entering the country to work should have a working visa. The 26-year-old came to Manchester on a tourist visa to be unveiled to the media. He is currently in Madrid trying to secure the document.

His lawyer told BBC that Rojo was awaiting trial but hoped to resolve the issue soon. He warned though that if found guilty, the centre-back could be placed on probation and sentenced to community service but would affect his contract with United.

A United official commented on the matter saying it was a mere formality.

“Marcos had to leave the country in order to obtain a visa and then use it to officially re-enter the Uk to live.

“That is normal.”

Manager Louis van Gaal had thrown some light on the matter during Di Maria’s unveiling.

He said: "Marcos Rojo is working on his permit. He must go abroad for it. He is abroad in the [Argentine] embassy in Madrid but it’s taking more time than expected.

"The difference with Di Maria is that he has an Italian passport and Rojo does not."

Louis van Gaal was confident that he will have him back for the QPR clash after the international break.

"I believe that when we play QPR he will have a [visa]", the Dutchman said.
