Marouane Fellaini receives a nine-month ban from driving after speeding twice in six minutes

Marouane Fellaini is currently struggling to get game time for Manchester United under Louis Van Gaal.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been banned from driving after he was caught speeding twice on the same day, according to the Daily Mail. Fellaini has been given a ninth-month ban after failing to attend Manchester Magistrates Court for sentencing on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old was clocked cruising at 81mph in a 40mph zone in Sale, Greater Manchester and then six minutes later has was spotted driving 59mph in a 30mph on Chester Road. As a result, the Belgian was supposed to attend the City Court for sentencing which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon.

However, Fellaini failed to report and his attendance ‘had been excused’ by the court. He had been spotted arriving at the Lowry Hotel with his Red Devils teammates prior the Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

The former Everton man had previously pleaded guilty to both charges of exceeding both speed limits.

“Mr Fellaini was caught driving along Cross Street at 4.46pm on the 7th May and was travelling at 81mph in a 40mph zone.” said prosecutor, Mr Richard Doughty.

“Six minutes later at 4.52pm he was caught travelling at 59mph in a 30mph zone.”

The court has issued a report stating that the player clocked up 15 points on his licence for previous motoring offences. However, it was not revealed as to why he had not been banned already.

According to Rosalind Emsley-Smith, the Belgium international ‘should have been banned already’ but that this was his first occasion of totting – meaning adding up total penalty points to impose a ban. Normally, any more than 12 points means a driving ban.

Miss Emsley-Smith has revealed to magistrates that Fellaini had written a letter of apology and it was entirely genuine. Subsequently, the city's magistrates have banned the tall United player from driving for nine months. He was fined £1,188 and ordered to pay £170 court costs, a £150 criminal court charge, and a £120 victim surcharge.

Fellaini has struggled to break into the United XI this season

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old was introduced in the second half of Red Devils’ match against PSV during the midweek, but he struggled to impose himself in the game despite being deployed in the centre forward position.

Fellaini joined the 20-time English Champions from Everton in a £27.5m deal in summer 2013, signing a five-year contract. But he has failed to consistently impress the Old Trafford supporters since his arrival and is currently struggling to break into Louis Van Gaal’s starting lineup.
