Lionel Messi scored a truly magical goal in the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao

The Copa del Rey finals in the past two years have witnessed two spectacular goals. If it was Messi’s magical run in this year’s final, then last year saw Bale’s power packed goal against none other than Barcelona. One always wonders which goal is better than the other.

In Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao, Lionel was up to his usual antics again as he scored a sensational goal to open the scoring on the night. It was stuff of legends and the Argentine showed why he is one of the very best.

Lionel Messi is from another planet

In the 20th minute when the score was 0-0, Messi changed the course of the game as he decided to take matters into his own hand and dictate the game as he likes it best. But the manner in which it came about was truly spectacular.

Surrounded by 3 Athletic Bilbao players near the outside line, the 27-year-old weaved his magic and moved past them as if they weren’t there. He carried the ball inside the penalty area where he wrong-footed another defender before placing the ball in the back of the net beating the goalkeeper on his near post.

Bartra is still running

In last year’s final, it was a certain Welshman who stole the show with a goal that combined pace and power.Bale went on a rampaging run down the left flank leaving Barcelona’s Marc Bartra in his wake and poking the ball home as Madrid lifted the title.

The goal demonstrated Bale’s sheer power and pace and also great composure in front of goal which made it one of the most memorable goals in Bale’s career at Madrid.

Though this season has been a tough one, it was that goal in the final which announced Bale’s arrival to Spain and made him a star among the Real Madrid faithful. The fact that it came against Barcelona was also something that enhanced his reputation.

Both goals are truly brilliant in their own right, but comparisons are bound to happen when the people involved are Messi and Bale. Which is your pick?
