Millennium Stadium expected to host 2017 Champions League final

Cardiff Millennium Stadium

Cardiff’s Millennium stadium will host the 2017 Champions League final. The Welsh stadium was the clear frontrunner in the race and the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Prague confirmed the same.

Their bid to host one of the major European finals was led by the Football Association of Wales but also has support from the national Rugby Union who are the owners of the Millennium stadium.

The stadium has a capacity of 74,600. It was a part of Wales’ bid for the 2020 European Championships which it unfortunately did not win. However, It did host the European Supercup in 2014 which was won by a Real Madrid team featuring Welsh hero Gareth Bale.

It was also used during the 2012 Olympics for the football games and miscellaneous FA Cup finals, Community Shield competitions and so on.

The final of 2016, at the end of this season, will be played on 28 May at the Italian San Siro.
