David Moyes, has reserved his first task as gaining the respect and trust of his squad after formulating a regime for success to be followed at Manchester United.

Moyes will only officially become Manchester United’s manager on July 1 but he has already got the wheels turning behind the scenes to establish his authority and autonomy at Old Trafford.

He is determined to do justice to the legacy left behind by Sir Alex Ferguson, who stepped down at the end of last season after 26 years.

The strenuous task, of maintaining the two decades of unprecedented success the club enjoyed under the 71-year-old, inevitably falls on Moyes.

In a speech to an exclusive audience, Moyes revealed the managerial principles that he believes can sustain Ferguson’s success at United.

“Discipline has to come from within the players. And I’m a great believer in giving young players opportunities,’ he said.

“Developing players mentally is very important, but it needs to fit with what the players want.”

Moyes, 50, told his new squad that he will accept nothing less than total commitment, seven days a week, from those who work for him, though he also admitted that the success of the team will most probably be determined by the players he buys and sells.

That being said, Moyes added that he is looking to bring Everton duo Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini to United, while jettisoning several existing members of the squad.
