Netherlands team to vacate hotel for FIFA sponsors

Netherlands wont have a place to stay if they go further in the tournament

The Netherlands football team’s accommodation facility in Brazil has gone awry due to them securing a semi-final berth in the World Cup tournament.

While manager Louis Van Gaal took the team out for some light training drills and exercises after their penalty shoot-out win over Costa Rica, the Dutch FA was handling the logistics of the team’s long run in the tournament.

The team had been staying at the Caesar Park Hotel in Ipanema for the duration of the tournament, but the Dutch FA had agreed to some conditions prior to the tournament for staying there. A flood of FIFA dignitaries and sponsors were expected in to the hotel as the semi-finals came by and the FA had agreed to vacate the rooms if they progressed this far.

The situation was not perfect for the Dutch as the only other option available was a kilometer above sea-level and they were informed of the situation if they survived long enough in the tournament.

It is within the rights of the FIFA to maintain reservations but a little perspective here would have helped. The dignitaries and sponsors are vacating the rooms of the very players they are coming to see.

As they say, if you want to win the World Cup you have to overcome great adversities and challenges. Well ‘accommodation’ has just been added to the list by the Netherlands.
