Football pundit Lee Sharpe has urged Manchester United to go for Aston Villa boss Unai Emery if they decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag. He believes the Spaniard would be a success at Old Trafford if the management backs him.
Speaking to DAZN, Sharpe claimed that the former Arsenal boss would be a 'class manager' for Manchester United. He added that the Spaniard would be his top pick ahead of every name mentioned in the media so far and said:
"If I were choosing and Erik ten Hag was to go, Unai Emery would be at the top of my list. I think given the support and the full backing, he could replicate what he's done at Villa. I think he'd be a class manager for United."
Reports suggest Ten Hag is under pressure at Old Trafford as he has struggled to deliver results this term. They have been knocked out of the Champions League and EFL Cup and are seventh in the Premier League table.
On the other hand, Emery's Villa are 13 points ahead of Manchester United in fourth, with five matches left to play in the league season.
Manchester United told to stay clear of Gareth Southgate by Lee Sharpe
England head coach Gareth Southgate has been heavily linked with Manchester United by the Telegraph and Daily Mail. However, Lee Sharpe thinks the England manager is not ideal for the Red Devils and told DAZN:
"I don't think Gareth Southgate is a Man United manager. I'm not sure he'd want it, given the position and the state that the club is in at the moment. It's not something where you come in and somebody's already made a success of it and you just come in and keep it rolling on. It's a rebuild and it's going to take a while to get it where the club and where the supporters want it to be."
He added:
"I think it would be a very awkward job for Gareth. To come out of England and be given all the players that he gets to choose from now and to come to United and not have such good players and that continuity, I think it would be a tricky one for him. I wouldn't go with Southgate, no. I think he's a bit too conservative and negative for Man United."
Apart from Southgate, Roberto de Zerbi, Graham Potter and Julian Nagelsmann have been linked with the Red Devils.
