When Cristiano Ronaldo reacted angrily after being irked by opponent

Cristiano Ronaldo is often an animated presence on the pitch for any side he plays for so when irked by an opponent at the World Cup, he had choice words for them.

South Korean striker Cho Gue-Sung tried to hurry the five-time Ballon d'Or winner off the pitch during their group-stage clash at the 2022 World Cup. Ronaldo was having none of it and reacted angrily, putting an index finger to his lips as he trudged off.

Speaking about the incident later, the Real Madrid legend said:

“Before my substitution, one of their players was telling me to leave quickly. I told him to shut up, he has no authority, he doesn’t have to say anything.”

South Korea beat Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal through a late Hee-Chan Hwang goal. Both sides, however, qualified for the Round of 16 in Qatar following the result, with the Portuguese maintaining top spot in the group despite the loss.

Portugal made it as far as the quarterfinals where they were eliminated by Morocco by a 1-0 scoreline. South Korea were knocked out in the Round of 16, losing 4-1 to Brazil.

Portugal World Cup boss Fernando Santos was displeased by Cristiano Ronaldo gesture

Portugal's head coach during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Fernando Santos, revealed that he was displeased by Cristiano Ronaldo's antics against South Korea. The legendary striker got into an exchange with Korean striker Cho Gue-Sung as he was being substituted.

Speaking after the match via The Guardian, the veteran coach said:

“Have I seen the images? Yes, I didn’t like it, not at all. I didn’t like it. I really didn’t like it. But from that moment onwards everything is finished regarding that issue. These matters are resolved behind closed doors. It’s resolved. Full stop on this matter and now everyone is focused on tomorrow’s match.”

The Portugal boss went on to drop Ronaldo for the next game against Switzerland. His decision seemed to be vindicated as the Portuguese ran out comfortable 6-1 winners to progress to the quarterfinals of the World Cup. He dropped the Al-Nassr man again in the defeat to Morocco.
