Neymar admits his wonder goal against Villarreal was 'planned'

Neymar is La Liga’s top scorer with 10 goals this season.

Barcelona forward Neymar has admitted his wonder goal against Villareal at Nou Camp on Sunday was premeditated, according to Canal Plus. Neymar has said that things are coming off for him and his teammates at the moment, following their 3-0 victory at the weekend. The Catalan club are now 3 points clear of rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga table.

The away team did well to keep the opposition’s attacking threat at bay till the hour mark, but they were hard done by Neymar’s strike, that fired the Blaugrana side to a 1-0 lead from Sergio Busquets’ assist. It was then followed up by Luis Suarez’s strike from the spot when Munir El-Haddadi was brought down in the box by one of the Villareal players and the referee pointed straight to the spot.

Then came the moment of brilliance by the Brazil captain. The 23-year-old scored his second goal of the game – which turned out to be the best goal on the night. Neymar played Suarez down the left wing, then raced 50 yards to take the return pass, flicked the ball over Jaume Costa, spun around him and volleyed the dropping ball into the net from 15 yards.

The former Santos star player is in the form of his life and he has scored some brilliant goals this term. But his volley at the weekend has been one of the best so far and he has admitted that the wonder goal was premeditated with a broad smile on his face.

“Yes, yes, I had thought of that move before. And it came off for me well,” he said in an interview.

The Brazillian has revealed he had been riled up by some decisions made by referee Carlos Clos Gomez prior to the goal. Gomez had booked both him and Suarez for protesting, when the game remained goalless.

“The referee lost control of the game a bit, it got a bit heated,” he added.

“We cannot even talk or answer back. When we speak we get a yellow card. So we answer by playing on the pitch.”

We are going very well: Neymar

At the moment, things are going well for the Spanish champions and Neymar has stepped up in the absence of injured Messi, who’s still on his road to recovery. The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals and given six assists while his partner Suarez has also found the back of the net on 10 occasions along with four assists across 10 games in the domestic league and the Champions League.

“We are going very well, we created a lot of chances during the game,” Neymar said.

“We played a very good game the whole team. We must keep going like this. We played a great game against Villarreal, a great team. I am very happy with what I am giving. But I believe I can keep improving.”
