NorthEast United keeper Rehenesh TP wants the team to perform for their fans

Rehenesh TP played every game for NorthEast United last season

Rehenesh TP was a revelation in the 2014 Indian Super League, and was judged as one of the best goalkeepers of the tournament. He represented NorthEast United on loan from his parent club Shillong Lajong and played in every game of the ISL.

The 22-year-old capped off a brilliant season with the third most clean-sheets in the league, and made 17 saves out of a possible 21 shots directed at him. Despite his heroics, NorthEast United ended the ISL season rock-bottom.

Rehenesh seemed to enjoy his first season in the ISL and is looking forward to having a good campaign with the John Abraham-owned club.

“It feels great! I am very happy to be with the team for the upcoming season. Looking forward to a good campaign.” he said, in an interview with the official ISL website.

Rehenesh excited to play alongside Simao

The Kerala-born shot stopper is excited by the arrival of the club’s new marquee player Simão Sabrosa and the new head coach César Farías, and spoke highly about the pair.

“I’m excited about Simao! It would be an amazing experience playing alongside such a world-class player. Capdevila will pass the baton on to him this season. He is a great human being.”

“Cesar Farías is only 42 and a ‘new generation’ coach. I think it will be a good experience to work under him.” said Rehenesh about the Venezuelan, according to www.indiansuperleague.com.

The promising keeper expressed his respect for NorthEast United’s adoring fans, admitting that it was their high regard for him that brought out his best form.

Our fans are our biggest strength: Rehenseh

“They are our biggest strength. Irrespective of us winning or losing, they’re always with us. At times, it gets overwhelming – they would also end up interacting with us via text messages.”

Rehenesh wants to repay his fans for their adulation and outlined his team’s goals for the season, hoping that they finish in the top spots.

“We hope to perform better for them this season.” he said, speaking to the official ISL website.

“Last year, we lacked experience. We started off well but our form dropped. This year, we want to stay on top.”

Rehenesh Tp is an all-round goalkeeper, who has very nimble footwork. He is very good at coming off his line and attacking balls, which allows him to provide cover to the last line of defence in the worst situations.

NorthEast United will begin their 2015 ISL season against last year’s finalists Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
