Official: Barcelona sign Portugal's Andre Gomes from Valencia

FC Barcelona have announced that they've secured the services of Portugal attacking midfielder Andre Gomes from La Liga rivals Valencia. The 22-year-old was heavily linked with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester United in recent weeks after impressing with Valencia over the span of the past two years.

The club Tweeted the news late in the night but have yet to release information regarding the transfer and how much they paid Valencia for the UEFA European Championship winner. “Agreement with Valencia for André Gomes. The player will both sign and be presented as a new Barcelona player next week,” the club tweeted.

Gomes rose through the ranks in Portugal first with Porto and then with Benfica. When on loan with Valencia, he impressed the hierarchy so much they decided to sign him on a permanent basis. Gomes has since made 75 appearances for the club scoring 8 goals in the process.

The Portuguese midfielder is the fourth signing for the Catalan giants after completing the deals for Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne, and Denis Suarez. Luis Enrique is yet to react on Gomes' signing but is said to be in the market for more players and is also finding clubs for many of his current stars.

Jeremy Mathieu, Arda Turan, Thomas Vermaelen, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen are all rumoured to want out of the club. Mathieu has been linked with a move back to his homeland in France while the other three – Turan, Vermaelen and Ter Stegen – are all reportedly attracting a lot of interest from the English Premier League.

Turan is reportedly on Arsenal's radar while Thomas Vermaelen is on Liverpool's and Ter Stegen on Manchester City's.
