Oh! To be a Gooner

‘Home is where the heart is’,

Is what everyone said.

If that’s the case, mine’s in London,

Coloured White and Red.

Nurtured at Highbury,

Now nestling in the Emirates.

Where our legends stand together,

And the Cannon guards o’er the gates.

Home to the greatest that ever walked,

The stage where even the best have been shocked.

The name that was brilliance personified,

Hear, Hear, The Arsenal have arrived.

While they danced, they made others fall,

They just played the game and it was the rebirth of football.

Tony Adams was our pride; our unrelenting hero,

Jens Lehmann was the reason other scores stayed zero.

Campbell was our stopper, who scored wonder goals,

And then was back 2 minutes later, to take the ball away from Scholes.

Ljungberg flirted with the lines while Pires added to the flame,

Once Bergkamp was through no defense was ever the same.

Patrick Vieira weaved and Petit spun,

Then on came the King, and the French Revolution was done.

They weren’t just players but a different breed,

They were Wenger’s men who performed the Invincible deed.

But then times changed and soon greatness became a thing of the past,

Nevertheless, the love for the Gunners will always last.

So what if there has been no trophy for 7 years?

So what if this road has been full of stumbles and tears?

So what if we cried into our jerseys in ’06,

When dreams had been shattered, that night in Paris

Ever since Millenium Stadium in ’05,

The heartbreaks for the Gunners has been too huge to describe.

The angst when our so called ‘heroes’ walked away,

The agony when the world said “The Arsenal have gone astray”.

Fellow Gooners, We may be down, but we are not out,

We will be back to remove all doubts.

We may be weak but we haven’t lost our grit,

The Arsenal will never crumble no matter how hard you hit.

We won’t go down, we won’t give up,

We will keep going till we reach the top.

We will repaint the banners of our former glory,

We will be back on the throne to rewrite history.

And then faces will beam as the tales are told,

Of the only army ever to win the Premier League in gold.

Till then be strong fellow Gooners, don’t let the spirit in you die,

It’s not easy being one of us but if you aren’t one,

You will never understand why…
