Olivier Giroud says he is expecting Arsene Wenger to sign a striker this summer

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud reveals he knows Arsene Wenger will be bringing in a striker this summer, but the Frenchman says he is relishing the expected competition.

Giroud led the line for the majority of the season for the Gunners last season and his constant run of games led to signs of fatigue, which prompted Arsene Wenger to thrust Yaya Sanogo into action.

Giroud, who recently began contract negotiations with the club, is currently preparing for the World Cup with France where he will be battling with a striker for the front role, Karim Benzema, unlike his current situation at Arsenal.

Giroud however, admits that Arsene Wenger will most certainly bring in another forward this summer, but does not fear for his place in the starting XI in north London. Giroud says he is looking forward to the added competition and is excited to see who the Gunners bring in, with ex-Arsenal attacker Carlos Vela heavily linked with a return to the club.

Giroud told reporters: “I can tell you Arsenal will add a striker to the team.

“We need another striker. Great clubs have several good strikers, who compete with each other.

Olivier Giroud completed 25/82 take ons in the Premier League last season – a 30% success rate.
