Players who will not miss the FIFA World Cup final if they get a yellow in the semi-final

German duo Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger will escape suspension if they receive a yellow in the semi-final along with Brazillian keeper Julio Cesar.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup has seen a lot of scintillating football happening over the period of these four weeks which includes quite a massive number of cards being showed by referees.

According to FIFA’s official website, a total of 168 yellow cards has been issued over the span of 60 matches so far, with an average of 2.8 per match, relatively lower than the average in 2010 (3.8) and 2006 (4.8).

Usually, a player receiving two yellow cards in two different matches is automatically handed a one-match suspension. However, the rules are a teensy-bit different following the quarter-final stage of the World Cup as all the single yellow cards received by the players will be nullified as stated by FIFA.

This rule helps in avoiding scenarios where players could be issued a second yellow while appearing in a semi-final tie, followed by a suspension from the final.
