Pokémon's Pikachu will be Japan's official mascot for the 2014 FIFA World Cup

Pikachu teams up with with Adidas to support Japan’s 2014 World Cup campaign.

Japan have named Pikachu as their official mascot for the upcoming 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil which is being held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13, according to Anime News Network.

In case you don’t know who Pikachu is, he(?) is the electric-type Pokémon from the hugely-successful video game and anime series franchise Pokémon, who evolves into Raichu when exposed to a Thunder Stone.

Pikachu will be joined by his 10 of his other friends, with four of them being Meowth, and the three Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. The other six are Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Pancham, Helioptile, and Litleo.

Along with Pikachu, Adidas has also signed up a deal with Japanese pop sensation AKB48 who will be donning Japan’s jersey for a television commercial.
