The 2014-15 season of the Premier League will see the introduction of the vanishing spray in English football, the League announced.

The spray drew wide praise for all and sundry after its successful application in the recently concluded 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The spray, which lasts for only 60 seconds was used in the event to ensure that the defensive walls did not encroach more than 10 yards (9.15 metres) from the spot of a free-kick.

This marks the second significant step taken by the Premier League authorities to aid the cause of referees after last season saw the first use of goal-line technology to judge whether the ball had crossed the line or not.

Speaking of the new technology, Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore says "it was clear from watching the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil that vanishing spray benefited referees, players, and all of those who watched the matches."

With Premier League and football in general drawing in more monetary attractions as each day passes, the pressure on referees have increased at an exponential level to get the decisions right and preside over the match in the best manner possible.

New camera angles and technology have seen to it that nearly every bit of action is covered during the ninety minutes of the game and even beyond it.

Thus, any help that the men in the middle get to get the decisions right, is a welcome step indeed.
