Former Real Madrid forward Hugo Sanchez calls Louis van Gaal a "scoundrel"

Hugo Sanchez is left disgusted with Van Gaal’s treatment towards Chicharito

Mexico and Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez has heavily criticised Manchester United boss, Louis van Gaal for his reaction to Javier Hernandez’s penalty miss against Club Brugge in their Champions League away leg and has branded the Dutchman a “scoundrel”, according to Goal.

The former Dutch boss was caught on camera giving his assistant Ryan Giggs a stare suggesting the end of the Mexican’s time at Old Trafford following the miss from the spot - placing his effort wide and falling on his backside.

Hernandez was eventually shown the door in the late hours of the transfer deadline and he joined German side Bayer Leverkusen on a three-year contract for a reported fee of £7.3m. Chicharito bid farewell to Old Trafford having spent five glorious seasons at the club.

‘Hopefully people in England will realise that he is a bad person’

Sanchez was less than impressed by van Gaal’s attitude towards Hernandez and has suggested that the United boss needs to treat the players better to earn respect.

"Van Gaal made a bad decision – and it's not one he's done for the first time, he's done it 50,000 times," said Sanchez.

The former Blancos striker added: “I've coached and a coach cannot do that to their own player. I'd go out and applaud him and tell him to trust in himself. But that look he gave Giggs… What a scoundrel.”

"It was a bad game for Chicharito but any player in the world can do that. Van Gaal is a scoundrel; hopefully those in England realize he is a bad person and treats his players poorly. He should be professional. The players deserve professional and humane treatment."

Manchester United currently have Wayne Rooney as their only striker up front, alongside other attacking talents like Memphis Depay, Fellaini and newly signed teenager Anthony Martial. Along with Javier Hernandez’s departure, Louis Van Gaal has seen Belgian international Adnan Januzaj go out on season-long deal with Borussia Dortmund this transfer window.

The Red Devils are currently sitting fifth in the league table having secured seven points from four matches. They suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium and are set to face Liverpool in their next Barclays Premier League fixture.

The match will have a big significance on their quest to securing top-four finish in the league this season.
