Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has agreed a deal to sign for newly promoted Queen’s Park Rangers, reuniting with Harry Redknapp, the man who gave him his debut at West Ham.

The Daily Mail report that Ferdinand has agreed to take a huge drop in wages in order to link up with Redknapp again and that the defender was persuaded to sign after hearing Redknapp’s plans for Ferdinand at the club.

Ferdinand spent 12 years with Manchester United but he wasn’t offered an extension to his deal and was allowed to leave the club on a free transfer, along with club captain Nemanja Vidic.

Ferdinand has won six Premier League titles with United and a Champions League title although the order of the day at Loftus Road will be survival rather than silverware.

The defender signed for Man United from Leeds for a then record fee of £30 million in Leeds and spent over ten years with the Red Devils.

The 35-year-old is currently working with the BBC for the World Cup and it is expected that the deal will be confirmed in the next 24 hours.
