Reports: Jonny Evans close to leaving Manchester United for West Bromwich Albion

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans set to move to West Brom

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is close to signing for West Bromwich Albion, according to BBC. Evans who only made 17 appearances for the club in all competitions last season will reportedly cost Tony Pulis’ side around £6 million, with an extra £2 million in add-ons.

Although the 27-year-old won’t be able to make it for West Brom’s match against Stoke City, he will be looking to become a valuable part of Pullis’ side as the manager looks to do some good transfer business as the window closes.

Evans was a Manchester United youth graduate and made his first team debut in 2007. It wasn’t until 2011 though, that the Northern Irishman started playing regularly for the team. Recurring injuries, however, hampered the player’s progress all through.

He has in total made 198 appearances for United and managed to find the back of the net seven times. During his time at United, the defender also won a lot of trophies, prime among which are three Premier League titles, two Football League Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

The player though has only featured once for the Red Devils after his six-match ban last year, following an argument with Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse where he was seen spitting at the player.

The player though has not yet played for United this season, and was always likely to be shown the door after falling out of favour with United boss Louis van Gaal.

Although the player was linked with a move to Everton where he would have joined his former teammate Tom Cleverley, the centre-back will link-up with another ex-United player at West Brom as former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is also now plying his trade at the Hawthorns.

In an interview on Friday, Baggies boss Tony Pulis said, "Jonny would be a great signing for the football club but it's down to the money men and his side. It takes three parties, the player and the clubs. I'd love to sign Jonny Evans."

Saido Berahinho to stay at West Brom

With the transfer deadline-day almost upon us, West Brom will be hoping that they can retain their star player Saido Berahinho. Although the club have stated that they are not intent on selling their player, they have received bids from Tottenham Hotspur in the range of £21 million.

Pulis said, "I have informed Saido that he will not be transferred during this summer window and that he is staying at the club. As I have made clear from the moment Tottenham lodged their first bid for Saido on August 18, selling our top goalscorer was never on our agenda this summer. Our plans have always been based on Saido being part of our squad for the 2015-16 season.”
