Liverpool are still bidding to replace Luis Suarez with Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez as their talks continue, despite rumours of an imminent move to Arsenal, according to The Times.

Sanchez, 25, had a fantastic season at Barcelona last season, scoring 21 goals in all competitions and leading the line while Lionel Messi was suffering from a multitude of injuries. He then carried that form into the World Cup where he scored two goals in four matches for Chile as they were knocked out in the last-16 by Brazil despite playing well in the group stages.

Chile knocked Spain out as they progressed from the group stages with the Netherlands and Sanchez was a key player in those matches, moving up to fourth in the all-time scoring list for Chile.

With Liverpool set to lose Suarez to Barcelona, they are attempting to bring Alexis Sanchez to Anfield as part of the deal but finding it difficult. However, despite constant reports today that Arsenal have agreed a fee for Sanchez with Barcelona, the Reds remain in talks with the forward over a potential move to Anfield so his future is not certain just yet.

Liverpool are also trying to tie up deals for Lille and Belgium striker Divock Origi and Benfica attacking midfielder, Lazar Markovic, who could be set for a £19.8 million transfer.
