Rumoured: Liverpool targeting 16-goal Greek forward

Mitroglou

Reports in The Mirror have this morning linked Liverpool with a move forOlympiakos forward Konstantinos Mitroglou. Greek forward Mitroglou has scored 16 games for the club in the league and Europe so far this season, and is rumoured to be available for a bargain price. Twenty five year old Mitroglou would provide back up to the Red’s current strike partnership ofLuis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

The striker has impressed for the Greek side in the Champions League this season, netting a hat trick in their 3-0 away win at Anderlecht. Unsurprisingly, Mitroglou was also the Squawka man of the match in that game with a performance score of 90.

From five efforts Mitroglou scored the three goals that separated the two sides, including a spectacular effort from outside the box. He made 65% of his passes against the Belgian side, but whilst this figure is fairly low it did include two key passes that set up goal-scoring opportunities for a teammate.

Rodgers admitted in the wake of the side’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal last weekend that he wants to strengthen his squad, and is rumoured to have targeted Greek international Mitroglou.

“The Arsenal game was another indication that we need to keep improving our team in order to be able to compete,” said Rodgers.

“The focus is on bringing in players that can come straight in and improve our team.”

“Last year we made two great signings that came in and gave us that injection of quality that we needed. We will look to do that this January if we can”

“We know the areas we need to improve, but it’s all about timing, affordability and can we do it?”
