Rio Ferdinand will decide his future in the coming days.

Departing Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will make a decision on his future in the coming days. Ferdinand announced on Monday that he will leave the club after 12 years of service given by him to the club. He was told by the club that he will not be given a new contract, after the Southampton game. And his current contract expires in the summer.

Many clubs from USA’s Major League Soccer are rumoured to be interested in signing the English center back, and Turkish sides Besiktas and Galatasaray are also in the race for his signature.

Ferdinand said, “In the coming days I will start to think about my next step and make a decision on what will happen.”

“I haven’t had much time to do that yet since the season ended. I’ve been able to get away from the hype and enjoy my time.”

Rio Ferdinand also had his say on Louis van Gaal, who is the current favourite among the bookies to take over the Old Trafford managerial seat.

“He seems very strong and direct, has a good understanding and knowledge of what he wants to do and doesn’t deviate. You need to be like that at a club like Man United,” the former England international said.

“At every club he’s been at – Ajax, Bayern Munich, Barcelona – he seems to have gone in and done things his own way and I envisage him doing same thing if he comes in to United like it’s anticipated.”
