Rio Ferdinand with David Moyes

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he remains confident the club can finish the campaign strongly and secure a crucial Champions League spot in the top four.

The 35 year-old, who boasts over five million followers on his official Twitter account, started a question and answer session earlier today using the #AskRio. The hash tag soon began trending worldwide and although the defender received a fair amount of abuse, he also revealed some interesting insights.

Despite being injured and restricted to just seven appearances under David Moyes this season, it was unsurprising the 35-year-old believes that United will return to the top four by May.

However, with the reigning Champions languishing in seventh place and Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea looking strong they face the possibility of competing for a single place.

Elsewhere in a highly competitive campaign, Sherwood’s resurgent Spurs, Martinez’s Everton and a Suarez inspired Liverpool are all still in the hunt and David Moyes has his work cut out if he is to ensure his first season in charge at Old Trafford does not end in failure.

While Ferdinand remains optimistic about their chances, Moyes’ eagerness to bring in new recruits, having been sighted around various locations in Europe suggest it is not as cut and dry as the former England international suggests.
