Robbie Fowler: Good investments

The former Liverpool and Leeds United striker Robbie Fowler recently came in at number eight on a list of the ten wealthiest footballers which, when you consider the kind of money that Premiership footballers actually make, is no mean feat. Fowler’s personal wealth is estimated at around the £30 million mark, despite much of his post-Anfield career having been marked by injuries and disappointing performances, which certainly buys anyone a fairly lavish lifestyle. So how exactly does he live?

It should be noted that not all of Fowler’s money came from his earnings during his football career as – like a handful of other Premiership stars – he chose to invest his earnings.

During his playing days Fowler did not always come over as the brightest bulb, but his decision to invest in property in the North West area certainly marked him out as one of the more financially astute players – or maybe he can just afford to pay a very good accountant! However the decision was actually made, these properties will have played a significant role in increasing his personal fortune.

It is also widely believed that, again like a lot of players and former players, Fowler enjoys a flutter – whether it is horse racing or online betting sites like Paddy Power – and let’s face it, unlike the majority of us he has the money to be able to do this without worrying too much about the budget.

Outside of this, there have been persistent rumours of altogether more dangerous aspects of his lifestyle – which he did much to fuel himself with antics such as pretending to snort one of the white lines on the pitch during a game – but there has never been any hard and fast evidence of serious drug taking being a part of his lifestyle, and he has always adamantly denied that it is, so hopefully he sticks to having a bet now and then.
