Robin Van Persie involved in horrific on-pitch incident

Get well soon, Robin van Persie!

Robin Van Persie was carried off the pitch after a horrific eye injury in a game for his current club Fenerbahce on Sunday night. The ex-Manchester United striker scored the first goal in the game against Akhisar Belediyespor, as his team went on to win the game 3-1 on the night. Fenerbahce went up to second in the Turkish League table with that victory but unfortunately Van Persie could not celebrate with his teammates after the game due to his injured eye. Van Persie was involved in a collision in the box with Abdulwahid Sissoko of Akhisar Belediyespor. Sissoko tried to put himself between Van Persie in the ball while trying to win the ball off the Dutchman, but the two players came together in a fierce collision that sent the Dutchman tumbling to the surface. The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker came off worse after the challenge and hit the ground in severe pain. Van Persie was seen holding his left eye as he rolled on the turf and the game was immediately stopped so that the forward could receive proper treatment. Here is the video:

After leaving the field, videos showed Van Persie in considerable pain on a stretcher outside the stadium with a blood-stained bandage on his left eye. With respect to his injury this is what the Fenerbahce club doctor Burak Kunduraciogl had to say, “He received a blow to the eye and suffered a torn eyelid and bleeding. After the first intervention, we sent an ophthalmologist to the hospital to assess him.”

“After the investigations, we learned that nothing important happened. His condition is good,” he added.

In what was a very freak injury, the main takeaway is that there is no serious or permanent damage to his left eye or his vision and that he is, in fact fine and able to see. Wrong reports had stated that he lost his vision and would not be able to see from that eye, but that is, in fact untrue. He even showed amazing love for his new club by returning to the stadium from the hospital to watch the rest of the game.

Van Persie has been in extremely good form for Fenerbahce recently and certainly helped his side by scoring the opener before his gruesome injury. The Dutchman is a dedicated professional and a strong human being and has proved it by returning to the stadium despite his condition and in doing so, he has surely won over the Fenerbahce faithful.Get well soon Robin.
