Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi star in this week’s La Liga team of the week

Real Madrid continued their record breaking streak, equaling Barcelona’s Spanish record of 18 consecutive wins in all competitions. Meanwhile, there were also wins for Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, as well as Champions League spot favourites (at least for now) Sevilla.

In goal for our Team of the Round though, it’s Malaga goalkeeper Carlos Kameni who wins the spot. The Cameroonian keeper, who’s in world class form was a rock for Malaga in their 1-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna. He made a total of six saves including a penalty for a well-deserved clean sheet.

Atletico Madrid’s Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez scored a spectacular goal which any striker will be proud of, and helped Diego Simeone’s league champions secure a clean sheet on their trip to Elche.

Eibar’s 26-year-old defender Raul Albentosa was on top of his game, and posted a Man of the Match performance in Monday’s seven-goal thriller against Almeria. The big man got one of his side’s five goals, and wasn’t lasking in his defensive duties either. He’s joined by centre-back partner and namesake Raul Navas, who also got a goal and helped Armeros keep a strong defence.

Finally in defence is Brazilian fullback Marcelo, who was always a threat for Los Blancos in their 3-0 win at the Bernabeu against a solid Celta Vigo side. Marcelo showed why he’s regarded as one of the best fullbacks around, getting involved in Real Madrid’s first and last goal (credited with the assist).
Denis Cheryshev is finally settling well at Villareal after a so-so start to his loan spell. On Sunday, at El Madrigal, he played a huge role – with a goal and an assist – in the Yellow Submarines’ 4-0 demolition of David Moyes’ Real Sociedad side. Malaga midfield enforcer Sergi Darder scored the only goal for the Andalusians in their 1-0 win away at the Raizor against Deportivo. Rounding up our three-man midfield is Villareal 20-year-old midfielder Moi Gomez who came off the bench with 14 minutes to play, to score a brace for the Yellow Submarines in their 4-0 win over Real Sociedad.
Upfront, the regular suspects remain. Cristiano Ronaldo scored yet another hattrick, his 23rd in La liga, to set a new hattrick record in the league. He thus surpassed the former record of 22, held jointly by Telmo Zarra and Alfredo Di Stefano. The Portugese also made it 200 league goals for Real Madrid, and had an immaculatr gane overall.
But Lionel Messi won’t be outshined. The little Argentine chose the occasion of the Catalan Derby to show how deadly he too is. Messi bailed Barcelona out when they looked out. He scored a treble himself, his 21st in La liga.

History was made last Saturday at the San Mames, as Cordoba recorded their first La liga victory for over 40 years. It was all down to Nabil Ghilas’ goal after 22 minutes.
