Rumour: Arsenal will have to fend off AC Milan & Borussia Dortmund To Land Benfica’s Goncalo Guedes

Goncalo Guedes, Arsene Wenger

Is Goncalo Guedes part of Arsene Wenger’s plan for the future at the Emirates?

Arsenal are locked in a three-way transfer battle for 17-year-old Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes with Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

Guedes has attracted attention for his impressive performances in the UEFA Youth League, where he’s tallied four goals and one assist in nine appearances for the Portuguese club.

According to the Mirror, the Portuguese media are reporting that the Gunners are tracking the young winger and that Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi has been out to watch him play.

It is estimated that Guedes could be available for around £6 million if the Lisbon club elect to sell him.

However, Benfica are keen to offer Guedes a new long-term contract that would include a prohibitive buy-out clause to detract any potential suitors.

Arsenal are in the market for a talented winger to cover the oft-injured Theo Walcott but may deem £6 million too hefty a price tag for a player not proven at the highest level.

Porto are a club notorious for their hardball approach to transfer negotiations so Arsenal won’t be getting a bargain if they do decide to pursue the player.
