Rumour: Liverpool owners to show the exit door to Brendan Rodgers

Who’s the deserved candidate to succeed Rodgers at Anfield?

Liverpool owners have decided to sack Brendan Rodgers but has confirmed it will not be Jurgen Klopp to replace the current boss at Anfield, talkSPORT reports. The Northern Irishman’s future at the club has been in jeopardy following the side’s disappointing start to the season, with a couple of dodgy displays over the past six matches in the Premier League.

The Reds are currently sitting in 13th position despite kicking off the current campaign with back-to-back victories over Stoke and Bournemouth in their first two matches.

The Merseyside club has already suffered two disappointing defeats to Manchester United and West Ham and Rodgers’ men are now without a win in their last six games. The Northern Irishman’s misery was multiplied after a lackluster performance against League 2 outfit Carlisle united in the Capital One Cup, when his side had to depend on penalties after the match ended in 1-1 draw at normal time.

Graham Beecroft, Merseyside correspondent, has admitted that Wednesday’s underwhelming performance was the final straw for Fenway Sports Group.

“John W Henry would have looked at that performance and thought, ‘this is not good enough and a change has to be made’, and I understand that is going to happen,” Beecroft told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“In fact, the club board were split in what to do with Brendan Rodgers, but the power base in Boston decided before this game they were going to make the change.”

“This result will simply have reinforced the fact they feel they have to do that."

Liverpool rubbishes suggestions on Ancelotti succeeding Rodgers at Anfield

The Merseyside Red outfit has rubbished reports in several newspapers over the suggestions that they had mad an approach for the Italian manager. Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and ex-Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has been strongly linked to taking up the job at Anfield.

This claim, however, has been played down when Beecroft admitted that the club will only stick with Rodgers if the candidates turn down the opportunity.

“Liverpool swiftly denied any talks with Carlo Ancelotti when the rumours became public, however you might remember Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the Liverpool job for quite some time and they’ve never issued any statement regarding that, so Liverpool fans saw that as being a little bit fishy.” he said.

“Unless something happens, whereby Ancelotti says no, that will be the only thing that will save Brendan, and even then, he would only stay in the short term.

“One thing I can tell you is that Jurgen Klopp will not be the next Liverpool manager.”

Jurgen Klopp, who’s been wanted by the Anfield faithful to replace the Northern Irishman at the club, has been reported to attend Liverpool’s next Premier League match against Aston Villa.
